This adventurous-filled day is the ideal substitute for a weekend vacation. Our perfect day is complete with our GPS tour, farmers market, and a picnic at sunset.
The perfect day starts with downloading our Wayfarer Journey app to get access to the Malibu GPS-guided tour. Next on the agenda is choosing the ideal tunes for the long day ahead of you. LET WAYFARER TAKE YOU ON A FUN DAY ADVENTURE THROUGH MALIBU (WHILE WASTING AS LITTLE GAS AS POSSIBLE BECAUSE OF THESE CRAZY PRICES!)
Start Day at 9 am
So we have the route and the playlist all ready; now just pack up the car and get ready to head out! To get a few things out of the way, we recommend that you take our tour on a relaxing Sunday, this way you can go to the famous Malibu Farmers Market. Also, the farmers market runs from 9 am to 2 pm, so make sure to plan around this. We recommend starting the tour around 9 am so that you can have time for the activity-packed day! We also recommend stocking up on blankets to sit on, some tote/insulated bags for all your farmer’s market finds, and some plates for the picnic.
Getty Villa at 10 am
Our app will conveniently take you directly to the Getty Villa! All you need to do is pull over and find a spot. Opening their doors at 10 am, the Getty Villa is filled to the brim with Greek and Roman antiquities. Who needs a trip to Europe when this museum will transport you to the Italian Countryside with the Villa’s Roman architecture. As a bonus, a trip here is completely free; all you need is a reservation! We recommend spending some time in the gardens while admiring the reflective pond.
After the museum, you can unpause the Malibu tour and let our GPS tour guide you around the beautiful Malibu while you soak up the sun and ocean breeze. For some much-needed fuel, make sure to stop at Blue Bottle for your caffeine fix. Although their coffee selection may be small, they indeed make up for it in quality.
LET WAYFARER TAKE YOU FROM THE GETTY VILLA UP TO THE FARMER’S MARKET
Malibu Farmer’s Market/ Lunch 12:30 pm
Conveniently located right near Blue Bottle is Malibu Farmers Market, located on 23555 Civic Center Way! Grab a snack like a freshly baked cookie made with farm-fresh eggs or gulp down an artisanal style green juice. Also, stalk up on some local cheeses and fruit for a charcuterie board for your beachside picnic. What says picnic, none other than a good cheeseboard? There are also some great lunch options here. Craving authentic Mexican food? Try the Gourmet Tamales stand. In the mood for some Greek cuisine, no problem. There is truly something for everyone at this little local spot. There is also plenty of shady seating so you can enjoy your food away from the rays. If you want to check out Malibu some more, you can stock up on picnic supplies at the farmer’s market and get lunch around town. We recommend checking out Broad Street Oyster Company or Marmalade Cafe.
Take Advantage of Other Excursions on the Way!
With the Wayfarer tour, you also get recommendations to stop at beaches like Leo Carillo or explore the hikes at Solstice Canyon! There are so many fun stops to check out, including Paradise Cove or Lake Shrine!
There are plenty of adventures waiting for you!
Explore Point Mugu and Walk Off Your Lunch at 3 pm
After walking around at the market, head back to your car, blast the AC, and get back to the tour!
THE WAYFARER TOUR ENDS AT POINT MUGU
As the navigation comes to an end, you will need to stretch your legs! Since the tour ends near Oxnard, it only makes sense to have your picnic at the iconic Point Mugu. The state beach is full of history, which only enhances your dining experience. For example, Point Mugu was once used as a United States Navy air station where many presidents flew through!
To set up your picnic, pull out your blankets, farmer’s market finds, and plates. All that’s left to do is admire the view, your company, and your food!
If you want a different route to head home to keep the adventure going, keep driving past Point Mugu to take the 101. Nothing says Angeleno than being stuck in LA traffic! Also, this route will allow you to stop at the Commons at Calabasas. Here, you are bound to have a celebrity sighting, as this area holds the Kardashian salad spot and many other celebrity joints.
