LA TOUR: The Best-Kept Secrets In Hollywood

LA TOUR: The Best-Kept Secrets In Hollywood

Things to Do in Hollywood in 2021 That You Can’t Find Anywhere Else

When you think of Hollywood, it is easy to think of Hollywood Boulevard packed with tourists trying to find their favorite celebrity’s star on the Walk of Fame. Or you may think of people lined up outside the TCL Chinese Theater trying to get a picture with your friendly neighborhood Spiderman impersonator.

LA Tour: Ideas to Beat the Crowds

Of course, we’re partial but we thinking Wayfarer’s Hollywood audio driving tour is the best way to see and learn about Hollywood. It only costs $9.99 for your entire party to get a turn by turn self-guided tour through town and up into the Hollywood Hills. Check our video trailer. For comparison, a typical van tour costs about $50….per person and, in my experience, the van drivers really don’t know what they’re talking about.

We have listed below some of the best Hollywood gems you need to visit the next time you are in town. All these locations fit perfectly with our Hollywood tour, now live on our app!

  • No Vacancy:
If you are traveling with adults, this speakeasy is the perfect place for you. Hidden in a back alley just off Hollywood Boulevard, No Vacancy gives you old Hollywood glamour. What can make you feel more like a local than strutting into a little secret bar! The Victorian-style decor truly makes you feel like you’ve been transported into another era. Looking more like a house than a bar only contributes to the speakeasy aesthetic. The indoor and outdoor space allows No Vacancy to hold events regularly. You can expect jazz performances to tightrope walkers! No Vacancy truly gives you that old Hollywood feel, make sure to check it out if you are in the area. (1727 N Hudson Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90028)
  • Galco’s Soda Pop Stop.
A local soda shop for all our foodies (and their kids) out there! Every square inch of this place is filled to the brim with soft drinks from all over the world; from all the little cities in the US to overseas, there is truly a soda for everyone. Coming in all different flavors, from your classics like root beer to the more obscure like chocolate or lavender you will surely find a flavor to enjoy. Also, there is not just soda; they are also famous for their Italian-style deli in the back of the joint. This family establishment has been in business for more than 100 years!! This little piece of LA history is the perfect place to bring the whole family. Parents may see a soda that reminds them of their youth, while the kids will just be happy to be surrounded by all the sugar! (5702 York Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90042)

LA Tour: THREE TRUE GEMS you’ll only find in Hollywood

You’ll have bragging rights forever if veer off the path beaten path and see these unique spots.

  • Hollywood Forever Cemetery:
You may be curious as to why there is a cemetery on our list of hidden gems. While paying respects to the dearly departed may not be on your top list of things to do while you are in Hollywood, we promise you will want to check out these burial grounds. While the cemetery holds the graves of many Hollywood’sHollywood’s favorites like Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney, there are also activities you can partake in. Hollywood Forever has movie nights! They offer showings of Hollywood classics like Pulp Fiction or the Wizard of Oz. Even better, is sometimes the cast of the movie surprises the audience! Whenever they show horror, we recommend checking it out because what adds to the cemetery ambiance more than a scary horror film! (6000 Santa Monica Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90038)
  • Garden of Oz:
If you find Hollywood appealing because of its exclusivity and secretive nature, Garden of Oz is definitely for you. Garden of Oz holds a collection of beautiful mosaics and a lush oasis, making it hard to believe you are still in the hustle and bustle of Hollywood. This location will take you out of the center of the city and bring you into the residential streets, which allows you to explore another area of Hollywood. The garden is a private residence; in fact, it is only open to the public one day of the week for 2 hours! Talk about exclusivity! If you want to make your way out to see the fabulous scenery for yourself, make sure to go on a Thursday between the hours of 10 am and 12 pm. For everyone hoping to snag a picture for the gram, unfortunately, keeping with the secrecy of the place, no photos are allowed. Although you can’t commemorate the moment with a photo, the views are totally worth it! (3040 Ledgewood Dr, Los Angeles, CA 90068)
  • Aline Barnsdall Hollyhock House:
The Aline Barnsdall Hollyhock House or more commonly known as Hollyhock House was one of the first LA projects done by the fabulous Frank Lloyd Wright. Located right near East Hollywood, Hollyhock House gives you a bit of Hollywood history and some beautiful architecture to admire. The park is a great place to have a picnic and relax. Or, if you are feeling up for it during the summer, the location typically offers painting, sculpture, or photography classes. If you are not feeling up for a class, just make sure you take a tour of the estate! (4800 Hollywood Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90027)
