“Know the World”

I’m a lucky guy and I know it.

Maybe it was because my grandfather was a diplomat and lived overseas. Maybe it was because my mom was born in Jakarta during one of his tours with the Philippine Foreign Service. Maybe it was because my parents traversed the Pacific Ocean to dream a new life, an American life, and all the opportunities and risks that came with it. Maybe it was because my parents would take my brother and I on long weekend roadtrips throughout the Midwest to exotic places like Door County, Wisconsin, the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee, or the Quad Cities straddling Iowa and Illinois. For me, traveling or, wayfaring, if you will, has always been a part of my lucky life and I’ve always sought to learn and discover and take those experiences back with me to not only grow personally but also to extend my luck and discovery to those around me. And even today, despite this pandemic, I like to keep busy taking walking tours, bike tours, and museum tours to learn about the place I’m visiting, including its history, culture, and its current state. But the travel industry has changed radically due to the pandemic and looking ahead the future of travel will continue to be about experiences and learning. For those of you who love to travel as a learning experience as much as I do, you should get really excited about Wayfarer Journey, a start-up I’ve joined as Director of Strategic Partnerships.
